Closing the catalogue cycle

It is now several years since the dot-com boom and, indeed, even the subsequent bust is starting to fade in the memory. While there may now be some jostling for position by smaller online retailers, it would appear that the larger companies have things all sewn up—Amazon and Play.com for example, or Dabs.com and Misco for computer components. IT247 was essentially a showcase for an eCommerce software suite named IntoScape that Willock and colleague Andrew Senior had developed, and it was a piece of software that really impressed me. Here was a bit of software that could not only do eCommerce – the easy part – it could also replace a team of buyers by juggling tens of thousands of SKUs in just a matter of minutes.
